A better snowplow

Seniors Samantha Craig, Derek Fulk and Matthew Miltner placed first in the Institute of Navigation's first competition for autonomous snowplows last year. The competition required entrants to design, build and operate a fully autonomous snowplow. Craig presented a paper on the snowplow's design at ION's Global Navigation Satellite Systems 2011 conference in September.

Ohio University's creative writing doctoral program recently ranked third as a top creative writing doctoral program in the country. The 2012 ranking by Poets and Writers provided the creative writing program with its first official ranking by a national organization.

Dino-myte discovery

Ohio University paleontologist Patrick O'Connor and other U.S. scientists have discovered a new species of dinosaur in Utah. The feathery, non-avian Talos Sampsoni is a theropod, or raptor, a type of dinosaur found mainly in Asia. The team conducted bone scans using Ohio's high-resolution computer tomography scanner to learn more about the specimen's deformed talon.

Back to class, alumni!

Alumni have a lot to celebrate this July: Alumni College and Golden Weekend will take place July 26-29. Returning Bobcats can attend dinners and shows, take workshops, and even renew their vows with the "OH, I dO" ceremony at 18:04. Campus tours and open houses will be offered as well.
